SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP & ENGINEERING DISCIPLINE

Leadership

Engineering Discipline. A Vision for Water Resilience.
Grant Thomison
Founder, Inventor & Lead Engineer, ATAP Water Co.

Grant Thomison's journey into water technology did not stem from traditional municipal utilities. It was forged through decades of senior engineering discipline across aerospace, process safety, failure analysis, and high-consequence industrial facilities—sectors where failure is never treated as an acceptable operational cost.

“The engineering challenge isn't simply condensing moisture out of air. It's building a thermodynamic architecture that critical facilities can unconditionally depend upon when surrounding municipal infrastructure falters.”

Designed with Reliability in Mind

Drawing upon formal aerospace safety methodologies, Grant pioneered the integration of FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) and passive fail-safe principles into ATAP's atmospheric water generation platforms.

In complex mission environments, systems fail not because thermodynamics is misunderstood, but because interfaces, control logic, pressure spikes, and environmental extremes are insufficiently analyzed. Grant's design ethos mandates:

  • Mechanically biased default-open thermal bypass valves
  • Double-wall certified isolation between host coolants and desiccants
  • Triple-redundant sensor voting logic to prevent spurious actuations
  • Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) modular maintenance architectures

A Broader Approach to Water Infrastructure

Rather than viewing water generation as an isolated machine, Grant approaches it as an integrated energy-thermal-water ecosystem. Under his leadership, ATAP has developed patent-pending methods to co-locate atmospheric harvesting alongside high-density thermal rejection points—including data center chip manifolds, diesel generator exhaust jackets, and industrial process stacks.

By converting low-grade waste heat into on-site water, ATAP bridges the historic divide between thermal management and water conservation.

THE CORE MISSION

Build resilient water infrastructure for a world in which water availability can no longer be assumed.

ATAP reflects that philosophy—from its atmospheric-water architecture and thermal integration concepts to its controls, reliability and hazard-analysis work.
